The Ms. Foundation for Women, with support from Ms. magazine and the White House, launched this initiative as Take Our Daughters to Work Day.
Why daughters, you ask? The original intent was to empower girls and help them envision a world with endless career possibilities. The day was a hit, and in 2003, it officially expanded to include sons.
Now celebrated on the fourth Thursday of April, the day lets parents show their kids the ins and outs of their jobs. Inclusion and diversity have become important aspects of the celebration. Not only for biological children, this day also welcomes foster kids, mentees, and even nieces and nephews!
