It all began in 1997, when the World Kindness Movement was launched in Tokyo. A group of like-minded organizations from various countries came together to create a happier world by promoting kindness. And voilà ! The annual celebration of World Kindness Day was born.
Over the years, this moment has blossomed into a global phenomenon with 28 countries now involved. Milestones? We got ’em. Singapore broke a world record in 2012 for the most number of plush toys hugged in one minute. Feeling creative? The Kindness Rocks Project has been painting and sharing uplifting messages on rocks since 2015. Cute, right?
Traditions? You bet! Schools and communities around the world host kindness-themed events, like Random Acts of Kindness Week in the United States. And guess what? In 2015, Nancy Pelosi presented His Holiness the Dalai Lama with a Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of his message of kindness and compassion.
