World Kindness Week: a time when people from all walks of life come together to spread a little extra love. But how did it all begin?
It all started in 1998, when a group of like-minded individuals from various countries came together in Tokyo, Japan. They formed the World Kindness Movement and chose the second week of November to celebrate kindness.
Since then, the movement has grown tremendously and now includes over 28 nations. Significant milestones include the Singapore Kindness Movement in 1996, and the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation in the US in 1995.
This annual event isn’t just about grand gestures. It’s about small acts that make a big difference – like lending a listening ear, giving compliments, or simply holding the door open for someone.
As World Kindness Week evolved, it’s taken on various forms and cultural traditions. In Australia, they celebrate Kind July, focusing on intentional kindness. In the UK, they have Kindness Day UK, where people pledge to perform good deeds.
The celebration of kindness has evolved over time, turning into a global affair. Digital campaigns, social media challenges, and creative initiatives have helped spread the message of kindness across the globe.
So, during World Kindness Week, let’s all make an effort to be a little kinder, not just to others, but to ourselves too. After all, it’s the small acts of kindness that make the biggest impact.
