Welcome to the Fascinating Story of Administrative Professionals Week!
Back in the 1940s, the ball started rolling on this fabulous tradition. It all began with World War II and the booming wartime industry. The U.S. faced a severe shortage of skilled office workers. So, Mary Barrett and C. King Woodbridge, two forward-thinkers, teamed up to create the National Secretaries Association in 1942.
Fast forward to 1952, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Charles Sawyer declared the first-ever National Secretaries Week. He wanted to honor the contributions of secretary professionals, and it became a lasting tradition we now know as Administrative Professionals Week.
Over the years, this recognition week has evolved, adapting to the ever-changing workplace landscape. The name was officially changed in 2000 to Administrative Professionals Week to keep up with the expanding range of job titles and responsibilities.
Now celebrated annually in the last full week of April, the festivities include seminars, workshops, and appreciation events tailored specifically for admins. It’s all about empowering these hardworking professionals and acknowledging their invaluable contributions to businesses everywhere.
So here we are, still going strong with this fantastic celebration that has grown and adapted over the decades. Administrative Professionals Week is a testament to the hard work and dedication of these unsung heroes in the workforce. Let’s continue to honor and appreciate them for the essential roles they play in our lives and businesses!
