A slice of history: Veterans Day, celebrated on Nov 11, honors all who’ve served in the US military. Its roots trace back to World War I, when fighting ceased on Nov 11, 1918. Initially called Armistice Day, it became Veterans Day in 1954.
Milestones galore: President Wilson proclaimed Nov 11 as Armistice Day in 1919. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance, and in 1938, it became a national holiday. After WWII, Raymond Weeks led the charge to include all veterans, not just WWI vets. In 1968, the Uniform Holiday Bill moved the holiday to the fourth Monday in Oct, but the OG date was restored in 1978.
